Feb 21, 2010· 4. Coal Mining Technologies
Various mining technologies are used throughout the world's coalfields.
The technology adopted in each mining project should be the one which will extract the coal at the lowest overall cost.
Mining commenced several hundred years ago by exploiting seams that reach the surface (outcrop).
Mining Technology is an Associate in Applied Science Degree for students who plan to work in an underground or surface coal mine. Students considering Mining Technology should be capable of working underground in a production environment in proximity to heavy equipment.
Read MoreCoal Mining Technologies Surface mining of coal requires areas of land to be temporarily disturbed, which raises a number of environmental challenges. As coal mining is only a temporary use of land, a rehabilitation or reclamation plan is designed for each mine covering the period from the start of operations until well after mining has finished.
